Scuba diving in Indonesia: Where to get your diving license in Jakarta

February 16, 2016 Thalia Yanuar

Sometimes we city-slickers in Indonesia forget that we’re situated in the largest and most beautiful archipelago in the world – giving us unparalleled easy access to some of the world’s best diving sites. With oceans like Bunaken and Raja Ampat just a mere flight (or yacht ride!) away, and diving courses aplenty, there’s almost no excuse for postponing that scuba trip that’s been on your bucket list for ages.

Sure, snorkelling is alright, but the really spectacular sea life is way down deep! From breathtaking corals to fish so exotic they’re kinda scary looking, there’s a whole new world down there just waiting to be explored. So why not make it a goal to get PADI-certified this year? You don’t even have to wait until your next vacation to get accredited, these urban diving centres make it easy for us city-folk to finally get our diving license in order.

Depending on your schedule, you can theoretically get your license in under a week. Most dive centres start you off with all the basics with 5 days of training within the safe confines of their deep pool. The final step towards becoming a fully licensed diver is a weekend excursion to the Thousand Islands where you take your final test in the warm, shallow waters of the ocean. Then, you’ll be all set to take that impromptu scuba trip you’ve always dreamt of.

Here are some spots where you can get your diving license in Jakarta:

Bubbles Dive Center is a 5-star PADI dive centre that has its own unique 7 meter deep diving pool for aspiring divers to get the full feeling of being deep down in the water. Not only can you get PADI-certified here, Bubbles Dive Center even offers underwater photography lessons and schedules diving trips all around Indonesia!
