Yes ladies and gentleman, there are, unfortunately, consequences to enjoying Bali ‘after hours’. An innocent sip of a craftily concocted drink may very well start an evening of unexpected excitement involving slightly less innocent sips of something stronger, then well, the rest is history! Such an evening often comes complete with side effects of course; a throbbing head, a lazy achey body and a drastically delayed thought process, commonly known as the hangover.
The thing is, you’re in Bali and you simply cannot waste a day in bed whilst the sun shines outside. Time is precious on the island of the gods, so we’ve thrown together a mixture of hangover remedies in Bali that will have you ready to take on your day ‘the morning after’.
When we drink alcohol, our bodies lose a lot of nutrients and quickly get dehydrated, which is often the reason for headaches and weak bodies. The Dose Bali provides the fastest way to rehydrate and replenish through specially catered IV (intravenous) therapy.
Their ‘The Ultimate’ Booster Treatment is perfect for those suffering from post-party repercussions. IV medication (anti-heartburn, anti-nausea and/or painkillers), essential electrolytes, vitamins B & C and a special antioxidant that helps liver detoxification and improves energy levels are administered with a litre of standard saline solution. The solution is then delivered straight into the bloodstream over roughly 45minutes for a seemingly instantaneous recovery! By bypassing the digestive system, nutrient absorption and hydration is fast and effective, replenishing the body with a lot of the nutrients it lost.
The Dose Bali has numerous types of treatments from anti-aging to food poisoning recovery. They will come to your villa, home or even hotel, where a licensed doctor or nurse will administer the IV. Get your quick pick-me-up from The Dose Bali.

There are those of us who are simply immobile the morning after a big night and sometimes it takes a some ‘loosening up’ to get things moving again. If this is you, head over to Chill Reflexology in Seminyak and let the therapists work their magic.
One treatment called ‘Holistic Chill’ is perfect for this situation; a 90-minute session that focuses on specific reflex and accupressure points of the body that helps to alleviate headaches and migraines, improves poor blood circulation and also loosens up muscles in the body. Unlike most reflexology experiences, you’ll be lying down. This way the therapist can access pressure points along your back, neck, head, arms as well as the usual points on your feet and legs. It’s amazing how much tension is released from these specific points on the body, helping you to unwind in no time at all.
The best thing about Chill is how hassle-free it is. It isn’t a spa so you just head in (after making a booking), have your feet washed whilst enjoying some herbal teas and get stuck into your treatment fully clothed. No nonsense for that speedy recovery.
A Fruitful Cleanse
When we indulge a little too much it isn’t just our head that’s hurting, but sometimes our conscience too. The thought that with each drink we enjoy and savour, our bodies must suffer by processing the alcohol’s toxins – this means its time for a cleanse.
The Spa at Peppers Seminyak takes health and nutrition very seriously. They have created a complete juicing programme that aims to both cleanse and detoxify your body. The ‘Beginner Cleanse’ juicing programme is perfect for those who love to indulge, even in excess. A set of 6 juices are supplied for a whole day (2 green juices, 1 spicy lemon juice, 1 fruit juice, 1 red juice, 1 cashew milk), to be drunk in a specific order as a replacement for meals. The juices have all been cold pressed for full-concentration of nutrients, enzymes, proteins and minerals. Flush out those toxins and replace them with fresh, healthy substances.
The juicing cleanse is bought per set of 6 juices at IDR 450,000 (nett). However for best results it is best to do the programme for a minimum of 3 days and also to take advantage of the spa’s Holistic Nutritional Consultant as well.
Sweat It Out
One of the best ways to remove toxins from the body is to sweat them all out. Our advice would be to head over to The Canggu Club, Bali’s best sports and recreation centre in sunny Canggu. A Day Pass gives you access to a wealth of facilities which means you can pick and choose your chosen activity for your hangover workout.
There is a modern fitness centre with a range of cardio and fitness machines, as well as free weights, stretching areas and specialised classes. Further to that there is an indoor multi-sports hall for basketball, badminton and other activities, a tennis centre and also a 25m lap pool for a cool down afterwards. Splash Waterpark, Bounce Trampoline Centre and Strike Bowling are a part of Canggu Club which means if you have any young ones with you, they’ll stay entertained for the day too. Remember though, if you do plan to work out after a night of drinking, you will certainly need to drink lots of water and eat sufficient carbohydrates and fruits beforehand.
As we continue on the health train, we look to the magic of raw food. With your body surely out of balance – alcohol even affects hormones in the body! – a good dosage of healthy ingredients will surely help you back to inner-equilibrium.
Raw plant food is full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that strengthen your immune system; the enzymes improve digestion and energy levels; also, the high water content in raw plant food helps to cleanse and hydrate the body. A large portion of these benefits are lost when plants are cooked.
Now, when we are after a raw food fix we head to Alchemy! This raw, vegan cafe and juice bar offers up a range of raw delights; their 4 metre salad bar is a favourite, allowing healthy-eaters to pick and choose what’s right for them, otherwise their specially curated á la carte salads are better for those unable to decide – the Alchemy Lover is a top choice. However, it’s not all about salads here, Alchemy makes sure to create dishes that anyone can enjoy like their delicious vegan pizzas and guilt-free desserts – all rich with nutrients! Raw food is an efficient way of providing the body with all the tools it needs to heal itself, after all, mother nature knows best.
You can find Alchemy’s main centre in Ubud, but also a smaller branch can be found at Katamama Hotel in Seminyak.
A Leisurely Soak
Some of us are simply more immobile than others in such states of disability. However, this doesn’t mean you should curl up under the covers in your room, certainly not. If you plan to be motionless for the day, then why not do it in a place where you can enjoy the Bali views and the sunny weather.
A fantastic spot to do this is the Infinity Pool at the Pullman Bali Legian Nirwana. The reason why this is a great spot is that not many people know that this gorgeous rooftop is open to the public. On the third floor of the Pullman, it boasts expansive views of a quieter stretch of Kuta Beach, a luxurious infinity pool complete with an array of sun loungers, all to be enjoyed away from the crowds. What could be better than soaking up the sun’s rays whilst the friendly staff of the IP Pool Bar are there to satisfy your every whim. You don’t even have to lift a finger! If you’re after the ultimate poolside relaxation, the hotel even offers mani-pedi’s by the pool.
Quench That Craving
There is often an undying craving for comfort foods when one is hungover, but whether or not this actually soothes the hangover (research says no), it definitely soothes the soul!
The ultimate comfort food is without a doubt a juicy burger and no one makes them juicier than The Butcher’s Club. As their name suggests these guys know their meat, they focus on dry-aged beef from top suppliers around the world. The result? Meat so tender, aromatic and flavourful that a bite into their burgers takes you to heaven and back again in under a second. It goes beyond the meat though, as the cheese, fillings and sauces ooze between the beef and the bun to create a medley of pleasure in your mouth. It’s just the kind of soul food that you need in this… time of crisis. We suggest biting into their ‘Double Happiness’, two stacks of dry-aged patty with melted cheese and bacon between – it’s so bad it’s good!

Run To The Hills
This may be a bit of an extreme reaction, but if you’re really feeling a need for some peace and quiet you should head for the hills and getaway from Bali’s buzzing south. For the perfect reprieve, bunker down at Jungle Fish Bali in Ubud.
Looking over a lush river valley, this beach club styled venue allows you sink into a sun lounger surrounded by the tranquility of Ubud’s natural environment. Certainly more peaceful than your usual beach club. Jungle Fish offers a range of healthy, fresh bites – many of their ingredients sourced from their own organic gardens and rice paddies, in true Ubud style! Lie under the sun, order up a fresh coconut to replace those lost electrolytes and just while the day away.
Hair Of The Dog
Yes, it’s a classic so-called remedy to any hangover, but in truth all it does is postpone its effects for a later time. For those unfamiliar with the term, it refers to curing a hangover with, well, more alcohol. It originates from Scotland – of course – referring to the time when the Scots believed that having being bitten by a dog, to prevent rabies you should rub the wound with a potion made with the hair of the dog that bit you.
Anyway, for anyone up to the challenge you’ll know that a Bloody Mary is the drink of choice when you’re ‘hanging’. There are those on the island however that take this classic drink a step further! Enter No Mas Bar in Ubud who have created what one might call a Bloody Mary on steroids; vodka, tomato juice, worcestershire sauce, tabasco, beef consommé, horseradish, celery, olives, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, lemon and red onion. If that wasn’t enough, they’ve added a ‘garnish’ of a bacon and burger slider and crispy fried chicken. Now That’s A Bloody Mary – which funnily enough is exactly what this special drink is called!
