Parking and Deliveries, The Headache Continues

November 13, 2016 Alistair G. Speirs

For those of you who come from very disciplined countries you may be surprised that deliveries are allowed at any time of day here in Bali, no matter how small or congested the road is.

Vans, trucks and huge containers are allowed to go anywhere on the island, to stop outside the shop or restaurant they are delivering to, and unload. There is no problem with causing traffic jams or disrupting people on the sidewalks. And as you may have seen there are lots of them, everywhere, working away without a care in the world.

Also without a care in the world are those who should issue the regulations to restrict such behaviour, which is simply not allowed in most countries where all deliveries must be completed by 9am, full stop. Putting an end to this unnecessary disruption would ease at least some of the increasingly insane traffic that Bali is now suffering from.

Perhaps you’ve also noticed that parking motorcycles along tiny roads is also tolerated? Most employees get to and from work by motorcycle since public transport is thin on the ground and sadly it seems there is nowhere for these machines to go, so they continue to clog the streets from morning till night, causing grief and heartache to the locals and tourists! This adds another serious dent in Bali’s image as a paradise island. Will someone please wake up and put these really solvable problems right?
