Mapping Bali 12 – Rock Springs

All this water doesn’t just sit in these lakes, the mountains themselves are full of cracks and fissures, they are like swimming pools badly in need of repair.

Eventually the water leaks out making its way through the bedrock by means of subterranean passages. Eventually the water remerges from the ground forming rock springs. The water bubbling out from the sides of rocky hills is cool, clean, and delicious, especially after a hard day of work in the sun. It is not surprising that the Balinese regard many of these springs to be sacred. The water from a selected few of them is considered to have substantial spiritual power.
